Shoreline Concert Band
The Shoreline Concert Band is comprised of an average of 60 musicians which includes Shoreline Community College music students, as well as, community members enrolled in the Continuing Education program of the college. The band plays a variety of high quality literature including many of the favorite band compositions of the past to original compositions written for the Shoreline Concert Band. The collective goal of this group is to provide enjoyable, high quality concerts to the community it serves.
The band is always seeking new members. Becoming a member of the Shoreline Concert Band gives SCC students an opportunity to play in a quality band ensemble as a part of their musical learning experience. It also offers community members the same opportunity without needing to enroll for college credits. Community members are charged a $49 fee per quarter, which includes parking for every rehearsal. No audition is required, but members do need to have previous band experience.
The Shoreline Concert Band operates on the calendar of the college with a major concert scheduled during the Fall, Winter and Spring quarters. The band plays three concerts a year, performs at SCC Graduation, and goes on tour once a year. Every concert features a guest ensemble and/or soloist. Each year, a member of the President's Own U. S. Marine Band appears with the band as a guest soloist.
The Shoreline Concert Band is directed by Ken Noreen. Mr. Noreen has served as the director since 1994 when he retired as the Director of Bands at Shorecrest High School and as Director of Music for the Shoreline School District. The Assistant Director is Mr. David Johnson, currently the Director of Bands at Shorewood High School.
