Apply for One-on-One Tutoring Assistance
All Shoreline Community College students are eligible for FREE individual, one-on-one tutoring for any Shoreline course they're taking for credit. This service is for those who need regular, weekly help studying their class materials. At this time, students may receive two hours a week per subject for classes of 5 or more credits and one hour a week per subject for classes of 4 or fewer credits.
The application for tutoring assistance is available online and in 4228. All students are required to submit a completed application with a copy of their current quarter schedule. Students wanting tutoring help must apply for assistance by the end of week 9 during fall, winter, and spring (week 7 in summer).
Tutors are granted to students on a first come, first served basis, and students will be notified via their go.shoreline.edu email when a tutoring match has been found. Students and tutors are then expected to meet weekly to explore and practice course content through a variety of methods, strategies, and styles.
Work as a Tutor
Those who want to assist students and who have subject matter skill may be able to work as a tutor. Those interested in becoming a tutor can apply online or in 4228. Applications to work as a tutor should be submitted with an unofficial transcript or a resume. This is a great opportunity to gain work experience, work with your peers, and keep your knowledge fresh. We require a minimum of a 3.5 grade in the subject with a 3.0 cumulative GPA, a strong faculty recommendation, or a detailed resume to be considered for tutoring. Please contact Tutoring Services for more details. We hope you strongly consider this opportunity.
Tutoring pay rates start at $11.50 per hour and vary based on highest degree earned.
Free online tutoring is available through the college's partnership in the Western eTutoring Consortium (WeTC). Students can interact with tutors in a live online chatroom, submit eQuestions and submit papers to the online writing lab and expect a response within 48 hours.
